Construction update

Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) is continuing preparatory works on behalf of HS2 around Euston Station, including Euston Square Gardens, St James’s Gardens, the DB Cargo shed (disused train carriage shed south of Granby Terrace and adjacent to Park Village East ) and the surrounding area around Granby Terrace.

During January and February we will continue the acquisitions programme of land and property in the vicinity of Euston Station. Additional preparatory works will be carried out inside a number of buildings around Euston Station ahead of the construction of the new High Speed 2 station and associated infrastructure in Euston.

Long-term closure of Euston Square Gardens

The west side of Euston Square Gardens (Melton Street side) will be closed to the public for the duration of the HS2 construction from mid-January. This is for preparatory works including, site clearance, utility diversions and heritage works. There will be temporary footpath closures on Melton Street, Euston Road and the pathways leading to Euston Station and Euston Bus Station from mid- January so that hoardings can be put up. We will aim to maintain pedestrian access through the gardens wherever possible during this time; alternative routes will be clearly signed at other times.

Demolition of the DB Cargo Shed

The current installation of the hoarding and removal of the sound screen will continue along Park Village East. The demolition of the DB Cargo Shed will begin from mid to late January with the first phase being the demolition of the brick building on Granby Terrace.

From early February a ramp will be built within the hoarded compound. This is for road access into the shed.

Addison Lee site, corner of Granby Terrace and Hampstead Road

The former Addison Lee site is being developed to use as a construction compound. There will be site offices and welfare units installed to support the works in the Granby Terrace/Hampstead Road area for the foreseeable future. From early January to mid-February there will be some noise due to the foundation construction and installation of the units.

HS2 in Camden

The HS2 in Camden drop-in community centre is also located within the former Addison Lee site and the opening hours are as follows:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 10am to 4pm
  • Thursday: 4pm to 8pm
  • First Saturday of every month: 10am to 2pm
  • Utility trial holes

Utility trial hole works will continue within Euston Square Gardens and on Granby Terrace, Stanhope Street, Hampstead Road, Harrington Street, Lidlington Street and Varndell Street.

There will be no disruption to utility services as a consequence of these works. We apologise in advance for any disturbance these works may cause.

    Aerial drone surveys

Regular aerial drone surveys over the multiple sites of the HS2 project will be conducted from late January. Each flight will be planned to ensure there is minimal impact on the local community and to ensure all safety guidelines produced by the Civil Aviation Authority are adhered to.

The sole purpose of the drone survey is to collect aerial imagery of the site conditions. Imagery will not be collected of any areas outside the confines of the established work sites.

It is not expected for a drone survey to last longer than one hour and there will rarely be more than two surveys conducted a week within one work area.

Possession of buildings within the Euston area

During January and February CSJV will continue to take possessions of the buildings to the west of Euston Station. Buildings will be secured and hoarding will be installed.

    Water Main Diversion

Thames Water are carrying out preparatory works at the London Zoo car park. Works have started on the water main diversion with sites at Cumberland Market, Augustus Street and Albany Street. Temporary road closures will be needed at Cumberland Market between the junctions of Augustus Street and Redhill Street and some parking bays to be suspended.
