Construction Update

Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) is continuing preparatory works on behalf of HS2 within St James’s Gardens, at the DB Cargo shed (disused train carriage shed south of Granby Terrace and adjacent to Park Village East ) and the surrounding area off Granby Terrace. A compound will be set up at the former Addison Lee car park off Granby Terrace.

Additional preparatory works will be carried out in a number of buildings around Euston Station ahead of the construction of the new High Speed station and infrastructure in Euston.

Permanent road closure of Cardington Street

Cardington Street will be permanently closed to pedestrians, and to all vehicles including cyclists from the 13 November. Details of road closures in Camden are available here.

Thistle Hotel, Ibis Hotel and Jestico & Whiles Architects

CSJV will take possession of the Thistle and Ibis Hotels on Cardington Street as well as the Jestico & Whiles building on Cobourg Street during November to prepare the buildings for demolition in 2018. A temporary footpath closure will be needed on Cobourg Street and Drummond Street from early to mid-November for the installation of hoardings.

DB Cargo shed

The parapet wall on Park Village East is structurally unstable and we need to remove the wall to safely carry out the demolition of the DB Cargo shed and future works in the cutting. Once the remaining foliage has been cleared, between mid-October and mid-December a hoarding and demolition sound screen will be installed against the front of the planter. These works will need a lane and footpath closure with temporary parking bay suspensions. The demolition of the DB Cargo building on Granby Terrace will take place from mid to late November.

Addison Lee site, corner of Granby Terrace and Hampstead Road

In November the new HS2 community drop-in centre will be opening at the previous Addison Lee site on the corner of Granby Terrace and Hampstead Road. There will also be three to four storey high site office cabins installed. A potential temporary full road closure on Granby Terrace may be needed for up to one week from late November for a crane to lift in the site office and welfare cabins.

Ground monitoring

From early November we will install small ground studs into the pavement in some streets in the Euston area to monitor ground movement. A tripod digital levelling instrument will be used to periodically collect the measurement data.

Bartlett School of Architecture

There will be a partial footpath closure on the corner of Hampstead Road and Cardington Street to late November for the installation of the hoarding at the Bartlett building and the adjacent disused petrol station.

Euston Street, Walkden House Melton Street, Wolfson House Stephenson Way

There will be a partial footway closure on the west side of Melton Street and a full footway closure on Euston Street and Stephenson Way in November to install hoardings.

St James’s Gardens and National Temperance Hospital (NTH) site

Archaeological surveys are ongoing and will continue throughout the autumn.

Survey works are ongoing in the Insull wing at the National Temperance Hospital in advance of the start of demolition. Construction of site offices at the NTH site will start from January.

Podium Building, to the front of Euston Station

Internal works will take place in the Podium building from early November to June 2018. There will be a temporary partial footpath closure for up to two days on the Eversholt Street side of Euston Station from mid to late November for the installation of hoarding.

Utility trial holes

Utility trial holes are taking place on roads including Granby Terrace, Harrington Street, Stanhope Street, Augustus Street and Hampstead Road. Temporary lane closures will be needed and traffic management measures will be in place.

Gas main diversion

In preparation for the Thames Water diversion works, a gas main will be diverted in Cumberland Market in late November/early December. This work is expected to take up to two weeks and will need a road closure and some parking bay suspensions. There will be no interruption to utility services as a result of this work.

42in Water main diversion

Thames Water are carrying out preparatory works at the London Zoo car park. Works are planned to start on the water main diversion on the 8 January 2018 with sites at Cumberland Market, Augustus Street and Albany Street. Temporary road closures will be needed and some parking bays suspended. Information about these works will be available at the community drop in event on the 6 December.
