Footpath closures and scaffolding installation around the former Ibis hotel

* Update 12 July 18 - this work has been delayed, and is now due to take place from 17 July - 17 August.

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are starting the deconstruction of the Ibis Hotel on Cardington Street from now until February 2019.

A scaffold will be erected around the building from early July. This will include a scaffold covered walkway along Drummond Street and scaffolding along Cobourg Street, both on the Ibis Hotel’s side of the road.

The installation of the scaffolding will start from 2 July and is expected to take four weeks.

To ensure safe pedestrian movements in front of the building the footpaths on Cobourg Street and Drummond Street alongside the Ibis Hotel will be closed for four weeks.

The footpaths on the opposite sides of both streets will remain open as usual and temporary pedestrian diversion signs will be in place. Cobourg Street and Drummond Street will remain open to traffic.

Once the scaffold covered walkway on Drummond Street is erected, the footpath will be reopened for pedestrian use. The footpath on Cobourg Street will remain closed to pedestrians until completion of the hotel deconstruction.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.
