Notice of Ground Investigation Works - Robert Street

As part of developing the route of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out ground investigation surveys in a number of locations in the Euston area, subject to the necessary approvals from Camden Council.

The work is being carried out on our behalf by Thames Water as we are surveying the utility services located under the road surface in these roads, with a view to diverting an existing trunk water main along them.

The next stage of these works involves digging holes in six locations along Robert Street (with one of these in the Osnaburgh/Robert Street junction) starting on 9 January 2017 and is due to be completed by the beginning of February 2017.

When is this happening?

Work starts on 9 January 2017 and will continue until 2 February 2017.

Working hours are between 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

We will not break the road surface before 9am.

Will roads be closed?

Robert Street will be closed between Osnaburgh Street and Stanhope Street from 9 to 19 January.

The part of Robert Street between Stanhope Street and Hampstead Road will be closed from 16 January to 2 February.

Parking bays will be suspended on Robert Street and Osnaburgh Street to allow these works to take place. Traffic diversions will be in place.

How will this affect you?

The activity involves closing the road and suspending parking spaces. We will be digging holes in the road, accurately locating the existing utility services and taking samples, then restoring the road surface. All appropriate steps will be taken to restrict any disruption. Pedestrian access to the estate will be maintained, but there will be no through traffic to Hampstead Road. Traffic diversions and traffic management measures will be in place. Essential services such as rubbish and recycling collections will continue as normal.

All work will comply with Section 61 of the Control of the Pollution Act 1974, which places restrictions on noisy works. We will erect temporary screening around each trial hole, clad with acoustic blankets to keep noise to a minimum.

The team will work as quickly as they can, avoid unnecessary noise and keep the area tidy. Once work is complete, we will restore the area as soon as possible. We apologise in advance for any disturbance caused.

CCTV surveys

We will also be starting non-intrusive CCTV surveys to look at the condition of the sewers in Euston starting on 9 January. Access to carry these out will be via existing manholes and there will be no disruption as a result of these works.

Future trial hole works

We will also need to complete trial holes in the following locations:

  • In three locations in the southern part of Redhill Street, taking place between 26 January and 9 February
  • In four locations along Albany Street, anticipated to take place between 2 February and 6 March
  • In one location in Cumberland Market and one in Park Village East, dates to be confirmed.
  • We will update with more information when the details are confirmed.
