Utility trial holes, Phoenix Road and Eversholt Street

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out further utility trial hole surveys on Phoenix Road and Eversholt Street during June and July.

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

The trial holes on Phoenix Road are located on the Avis Garage side of the road and will take place from 25 June to 2 July. The surveys will take place in the footways only, alternating each side with one footpath open to public use at all times during the works.

The trial holes on Eversholt Street are located north and south of the junction with Phoenix Road, adjacent to no. 46 and will take place from 3 to 27 July. The works are taking place concurrently with the remaining Eversholt Street and Lancing Street works communicated previously. All works on Eversholt Street will take place in one lane of the road at a time with alternating single lane closures in place. Eversholt Street will be closed to northbound traffic for the duration of these works and traffic diversions will be in place.

  • Working hours: 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • Our contractors may also be on site for one hour’s start-up and shutdown.
  • The initial breaking out of the road will be the noisiest activity, although this will be intermittent. We will erect temporary screening clad with acoustic panels to reduce noise, work as quickly as possible and keep work areas tidy. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.
