Utility trial holes - Mornington Crescent

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out utility trial hole surveys in Mornington Crescent.

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

Duration of works:

  • Mornington Crescent, from 19 March until early April
  • Normal working hours: Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, Saturdays 8am-1pm
  • Our contractors may also be on site for an hour before the start and/or at the end of each shift
  • The temporary trial hole will be dug across of the entire width of Mornington Crescent at the southern junction with Hampstead Road opposite Lidlington Place.

For the duration of the works the following traffic management will apply:

  • Full closure of the southern junction of Mornington Crescent with Hampstead road, with no vehicle access
  • The first three parking bays on the south side of Mornington Crescent will be suspended
  • The footpath will remain open on one side of the road at a time to allow pedestrian access from and to Hampstead Road
  • Traffic diversions will be in place
  • The initial digging/breaking out of the road will be the noisiest activity, although this will be intermittent and not continuous. We will erect screening clad with acoustic panels to reduce noise. We will work as quickly as we can and not close the road for longer than it is necessary. We will keep our work area tidy.

There will be no disruption to utility services as a consequence of these works. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.
