Utility trial holes; Chalton Street

11 June 18 update* These works have been delayed, and will now take place on Chalton Street from 25 June to 10 July. The works will take place in both the footpath and road, one lane at a time with alternating single lane closures.

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out further utility trial hole surveys on Chalton Street during June .

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

The trial holes will take place in Chalton Street from 6 to 29 June on the northern end of the road, outside Chalton House.

The works will take place in both the footpath and road, one lane at a time with alternating single lane closures in place including parking bay suspensions.

Throughout the duration of both trial holes, the parking bays outside of Chalton House and on the opposite side of the road, adjacent to 84 – 94 Chalton Street will be suspended at the same time.

Temporary traffic management will be in place to ensure that one lane of Chalton Street will remain open to traffic at all times during the works. The opposite footpath will remain open and pedestrian diversion signs will be in place.

  • Working hours: Monday to Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am – 1pm
  • Our contractors may also be on site for one hour’s start-up and shutdown
  • The initial breaking out of the road will be the noisiest activity, although this will be intermittent. We will erect temporary screening clad with acoustic panels to reduce noise, working as quickly as possible and keep work areas tidy. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.
