Utility trial holes; Chalton Street

*update 11 May 2018 - this work will now estimated to finish on 18 May 2018

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out utility trial hole surveys in Chalton Street from 26 April to 14 May .

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

  • Normal working hours: Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm, Saturdays 8am - 1pm
  • Our contractors may also be on site for an hour before the start and/or at the end of each shift
  • What to expect

  • Traffic management measures will be in place
  • The sites will be secured with construction fencing
  • Acoustic panels will be used to reduce noise
  • All the footpaths will remain open
  • One lane of the road will be open at all times during the works
  • The following traffic management measures will be in place to allow Chalton Street to remain open during the works:

  • All the parking bays within the gates of the market will be suspended
  • A permit system will be put in place for market traders to park in designated spaces
  • The works will take place in the carriageway with one lane of the carriageway open to traffic at all times during the works
  • All the footpaths will remain open
  • The initial breaking out of the road will be the noisiest activity, although this will be intermittent and not continuous. We will erect temporary screening clad with acoustic panels to reduce noise, working as quickly as possible and keep work areas tidy.

There will be no disruption to utility services because of these works. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.
