Utility trial holes; Drummond Street

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out utility trial hole surveys on Drummond Street during April and May.

The trial holes will take place in two locations in Drummond Street from 24 April to 21 May, one close to the junction with Melton Street and the other close to the junction with Coburg Street.

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

  • Normal working hours: Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, Saturdays 8am-1pm
  • Our contractors may also be on site for an hour before the start and/or at the end of each shift
  • What to expect

  • Traffic management measures will be in place
  • The sites will be secured with construction fencing
  • Acoustic panels will be used to reduce noise
  • The footpaths will remain open on one side of the road at all times during the works
  • One lane of the road will be open at all times during the works
  • For the duration of the works the following traffic management will apply:

  • The works will take place in one lane of the road at a time with the footpath closed on that side during the works
  • The alternate lane and footpath will remain open at all times and traffic management and diversion signs will be in place
  • The initial breaking out of the road will be the noisiest activity, although this will be intermittent and not continuous. We will erect temporary screening clad with acoustic panels to reduce noise, working as quickly as possible and keep work areas tidy.

There will be no disruption to utility services because of these works. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.
