Utility trial holes; Hampstead Road, Varndell Street

In January we notified that we would be carrying out utility trial hole surveys on Hampstead Road and Varndell Street. Although most of the works were completed in March, some of the works had to be postponed and these will now take place from mid to early June.

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug, which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

The trial hole in the carriageway of Hampstead Road will take place between 16 May and 4 June . One lane will remain open to traffic during the work. Both footpaths will remain open.

The trial hole on Varndell Street will take place from 30 May to 8 June in the carriageway and footpath outside Nos. 1-32 Waterhead Flats with one lane remaining open to traffic during the work. Temporary traffic lights and diversion signs will be in place. The opposite footpath will remain open during the works. The initial breaking out of the road surface will be the noisiest activity, although this will be intermittent and not carried out continuously.

  • Normal working hours: Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, Saturdays 8am-1pm
  • Our contractors may also be on site for an hour before the start and/or at the end of each shift
  • We will erect screening clad with acoustic panels to reduce noise, keep our area tidy and work as quickly as we can and keep road closures to a minimum.

There will be no disruption to utility services because of these works. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.
