Utility trial holes; Varndell Street

As part of developing the route design of the HS2 high speed railway, we are carrying out utility trial holes surveys in Hampstead Road and Varndell Street from mid-May to mid-July.

The surveys will involve temporary holes being dug, which will enable us to establish where utilities and services are located beneath the road surface.

We recently notified you of the works due to be completed on Varndell Street and Hampstead Road.

The remaining trial hole surveys on Hampstead Road will take place from 13 to 31 July.

The trial hole surveys on Varndell Street were originally due to take place in the carriageway and footpaths outside No. 1-32 Waterhead Flats, with one lane remaining open to traffic during the works. There was also a requirement for the suspension of around 30 parking spaces to facilitate these works.

We have since reviewed our programme and believe that overall it would be less disruptive to install a temporary full road closure with a diversion and not suspend any parking bays.

The road closure will be in place from 13 to 27 July with the diversion directing the flow of traffic via Robert Street and Stanhope Street.

Temporary screening with acoustic panels will be erected to reduce noise, with work taking place as quickly as possible and the area kept tidy. We recognise the disturbance this work can create and apologise in advance.

The full notice delivered to residents, which includes a map, is available here.
